COSMOTEX PDPY-01

Super Durable finish on Polyester fibers

General features of COSMOTEX PDPY-01

  • consists of nonhazardous substances (without formaldehyde)
  • offers antimicrobial and fungicidal properties with resistance to heat and discolouration
  • can be used for antimicrobial treatment of such synthetic fabrics as polyester, nylon, and acrylic in exhaustion or thermosol process (post-treatment methods are patented in Japan)
  • can be used for cotton fabric in padding process (note: necessity of a binder should be checked beforehand)
  • applicable for antimicrobial, fungicidal, or odor killing treatment of textile products to be approved by JAFET (Japanese Association for the Functional Evaluation of Textiles)
  • useful for hospital linens that require laundering frequently
  • Blending ratio of T/C is recommended at more than 65/35.

Physical properties of COSMOTEX PDPY-01

Active component:organic nitrogen and sulfur compounds
Appearance:white to pale yellowish pink suspension
Hazardousness:nil
Stability:stable in weak acid or alkaline solution
Solubility:suspended in water

Antimicrobial activity of COSMOTEX PDPY-01

By using 0.25 to 3 % o.w.s. or o.w.f. of COSMOTEX PDPY-01, antimicrobial activity can be offered against such fungi as Aspergillus niger, Penicillium citrinum, Cladosporium cladosporioides, such bacterias as Staphylococcus aureus, MRSA (Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus), Escherichia coli, VRE (Vancomycin resistant Enterocuccus faeoium) and Klebsiella pneumoniae (and Pseudmonas aeruginosa by using a higher concentration of COSMOTEX PDPY-01)

Application methods of COSMOTEX PDPY-01

  • It is used for hydrophilic resins (water soluble resin), non-woven fabrics, adhesives, papers, and fibers by mixing, coating, and exhausting or dipping.
  • Standard usage in exhaustion process: 0.5 ~ 2 % o.w.s. (0.5 ~ 3 g/m²), 0.5 ~ 2 % o.w.f., liquor ratio 1 : 5 ~ 10 , temperature at 130 ~ 135°C, time for 30 ~ 60 minutes. A suitable usage should be determined according to type of substrate and conditions to be adopted.
  • Standard usage in thermosol process: 0.25 ~ 2 % o.w.s. , baking at 180 ~ 190°C for a few minutes, rinsing with hot water, and drying or heat setting (note: dosage and occurrence of yellowing may be minimized in pad-steam process)
  • pH of the liquor is the best near to the neutral like 5 ~ 7.

Safety of the key raw material/preparation of COSMOTEX PDPY-01

Acute oral toxicity:LD50 in monkeys > 1,000 mg/kg (bulk powder)
Acute percutaneous toxicity:LD50 in rabbits > 2,000 mg/kg (bulk powder)
Mutagenicity:negative (Ames)
Skin Irritation:semi-negative (replica method determined by Kawai Medical Laboratory for Cutaneous Health)
(Preparatoin as raw material)
Skin sensitization:nil (preparation as raw material)

(Other safety data are available upon request)

[ Pre-treatment ]

Fabric should be scoured, rinsed with hot water thoroughly to be neutralized (without residual acid, alkali, oxidizer or reduction agent).

[ Treatment in exhaustion method under high pressure & temperature ]

Concentration:For Hospital linen & white robe (Industrial hard washing),
1.5 ~ 2 % o.w.f. for 100 % polyester.
1.0 ~ 2 % o.w.f. for polyester/cotton.
For Home laundry washing (mild washing),
0.5 ~ 1.0% o.w.f for either 100% Polyester or T/C.
Liquor ratio:1 : 5 ~ 10 (lower ratio is preferable)
Temp. & Time:135°C for 30 ~ 60 minutes
pH:5 ~ 7 ( alkaline condition is not recommended.)
pH below 5 decomposes COSMOTEX PDPY-01.
Drying or heat setting:100 ~ 130°C for a few minutes, or
180 ~ 190°C for 30 ~ 60 seconds
Reduction cleaning:to be carried out if necessary by 0.1% soda ash,
0.1 % hydrosulfite under mild condition.

Note: Efficacy of antimicrobial activity may vary according to original states of polyester fiber (denier, presence or absence of residual additives, conditions of scouring and weight reduction) and co-used dyes and auxiliaries. Therefore, it is recommended to conduct preliminary tests.

[ Treatment in thermosol method ]

Dipping by 0.25 ~ 1 % o.w.s. → Squeezing to 70 ~ 80% pickup → Baking at 180 ~ 210°C for a few minutes → Rinsing with hot water → Drying or heat setting

Note: a certain degree of moisture remained after pre-drying process can improve the permeability into the inside of fiber. Execution of high-pressure or high-temperature steaming may improve permeability.

[ Treatment for other type of substrate ]

In treating nylon or acrylic fabric, normal dyeing conditions should be adopted (with a lower liquor ratio, and pH value between 5 ~ 7). In case of Nylon or acrylic, durability of efficacy may be effective with 5 ~ 10 times home laundry.

[ Environmental measures ]

1.Effect on activated sludge

Official public data show that there was no effect by 200 ppm or less (as original state of COSMOTEX PDPY-01)
Note: It must be diluted to 100 ppm or less in case of discharging directly to public sewage

2.Effect on fish
  • Discard it after treated by the above activated sludge
  • If it is impossible to treat waste by activated sludge, it should be diluted with 10,000 parts of water or to be 100 ~ 500 ppm, and decomposed by mixing with sodium hypochlorite or hydrogen peroxide at room temperature for an hour.

[ Evaluation of antimicrobial activity ]

Substrate:polyester/cotton (85/15) blend
Conditions:1 % o.w.f. of COSMOTEX PDPY-01
135°C for 30 minutes, liquor ratio 1 : 10
Laundering:repeated at 50 times of laundering at 85°C for 15 minutes + detergent & Rinsing at normal temperature for 10 minutes.

[ Precautions in handling and storage ]

  1. Do not use COSMOTEX PDPY-01 itself for utensils including tableware and toys, and preparations including drugs and agricultural chemicals that may come into direct contact with foods and human body.
  2. Wear protective equipment (mask, rubber gloves, goggles, protective clothes, etc.) when handling.
  3. In contacting to skin, eyes, or mouth, wash immediately with a large amount of water and soap, and take medical attention if necessary.
  4. Preliminary tests should be carried out in order to check efficacy, defects, and reaction with other substances: presence or absence of metal corrosion, also discolouration by reacting with metals, dyes, etc.
Ventilate room when handling it at a high temperature. And wash apparatuses and tools thoroughly with water and a polar detergent.
  5. Stir it thoroughly before use.
  6. Since it may affect fish and activated sludge (unless it is diluted to 0.02% or less), do not discharge to public sewage but discard by incinerator, or treated by activated sludge and decomposed with 0.01 to 0.05% sodium hypochlorite or hydrogen peroxide.
  7. Do not swallow it mistakenly.
  8. Store it at cool and dark place. And close container tightly after used.
